Welcome to the Columbia Culinary Society! Dedicated to the arts of Food, Drink, and the Good Life, the society was founded in the fall of 1998 in order to espouse awareness and campus-wide appreciation of the culinary arts. We strive to educate and enhance the quality of student life through social opportunities, volunteer work, educational forums, and collaborations with other student groups and off-campus organizations.
In the past, we’ve held tastings that have included cheese, chocolate, tea, cake, and soup as well as group demonstrations that have ranged from making tarts to braising meats. We offer regular cooking classes that all Columbia students are welcome to attend and organize dining trips to some of New York’s finest restaurants.
The Culinary Society blog was founded in the summer of 2010 by President Matt Powell. In spring 2012, he handed over the reigns to current blog editor Amanda Tien. In the past year, the blog has grown from a writing staff of 3 to 35 and features a variety of series covering unique topics such as neighborhood profiles, vegetarian and vegan eateries, international posts from students participating in Study Abroad, dorm friendly cooking recipes, and other topics that interest and appeal to the student body. Additionally, the blog stays true to its roots in the Culinary Society by posting reminders and photos of the society’s on- and off-campus events.
